All SMC projects are collaboratively funded by SMC member agencies and numerous other SMC stakeholders and partners. The SMC does not collect dues from its member agencies and does not maintain a general fund or financial reserves. Instead, the SMC uses a co-funding model, where SMC member agencies voluntarily pay for just the projects that the Steering Committee has agreed to fund for the fiscal year. This co-funding model enables SMC member agencies to select which projects they fund; it also allows non-SMC member agencies to provide funding and in-kind support for a wide range of SMC projects.
